The weather during our vacations is the big dilemma, and we hope for a sunny day in the Caribbean, we all wish for, but you don`t have to worry about it, because the sun in Cancun shines 250 days a year, making it a dream holiday destination all year-round.

So, how is the weather in Cancun?  The weather in Cancun and its surroundings are always beautiful.  The climate is tropical, an average temperature of 75 degrees Fahrenheit (24°C), which can rise to 84°F (29°C) in summer, the rainfall average is 1400 mm.  The rainy season is from June to October, a more cooling season, and relatively dry is from December to April. However, also in the latter season, rainfall may occur, in addition to wind and cloudy days, especially in December and January.  Be ready for unpredictable weather. 

We want perfect holidays with the perfect weather. However, there is no one to escape from a rain shower here and there, it does not hurt anyone.   In general, the weather in Cancun is excellent. The rainy season in Cancun is from June to October, the temperature is around 84°F (29°C) hot and very humid.  Some breeze that helps with the heat, but moisture is high. There’s no shortage of sunshine because the rains occur mainly in the form of showers or thunderstorms, short but intense. 

Rain can be heavy at times in Cancun, but it is unlikely to rain for the whole of your trip. Often a torrential downpour will be followed by bright sunshine an hour later.  Try to pack a light raincoat you will need it if you would be walking outside. 

There are a lot of great indoor things to do on a rainy day in Cancun, don´t get the rain to stop you and have fun.

The dry season in Cancun is from November to April

Expect pleasant temperatures, the water of the sea cool a little, nice to be outside to sunbathe, go for a swim or snorkel.  In early November hurricanes and tropical storms are rare in this time of the year but can still affect the area, from late November to late March the wind from the north, bring cool and windy days, with highs temperatures around 23 °C / 73 °F and lows around 15 °C /59 °F, some clouds and rains. 

The Temperature of the sea range from a minimum of 26 °C (79 °F) in December to March, to a maximum of 29 °C (84 °F) in May to October. The water is warm and pleasant to swim all year round, crystal clear water. The temperature of the Cenotes is fresh can be around 15 °C /59 °F

Summer in Cancun is hot and is the rainy season of the year, but the best days to go to the beach. Some days you`ll see cloudy days, but it’s unlikely to rain for very long. The first sweltering days of summer arrive later in the month. June marks the beginning of hurricane season, though massive storms that are rare and tend to happen later in the season. Beaches are the most comfortable places to be and relax in the summer, as the steady breeze keeps the heat down. Make sure to plan to be by the water, a cenote swim is an excellent way to cool down if you decide to venture inland, just drink a lot of water.

Tips for Hot Summers in Cancun

  • First of all, you most likely will have to adjust.
  • Wear light cotton shirts and shorts.
  • Mornings are beautiful in that area.
  • Avoid Mid-day is brutal in the sun
  • Try a walk in the shade,
  • Stay in/near the water (breeze), etc.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • Spend some time inside during the hot hours.
  • Wear a hat, sun protection, lip balm.
  • Drink coconut water, this is the best hydrate beverage
  • Do not fell sleep sunbathing, these means do not get sunburned!
  • Take sensible precautions, and there is no reason that you can’t have a wonderful time

When is the Hurricane Season in Cancun?

Hurricane season start from June through November, though storms are more likely between August and October. There are son advantages to travel to this area during the hurricanes season, there are few travelers this time of the year, better hotel rates and you might find much lower flights.  You can definitely see some great travel deals plus this season also coincides with the summer holidays. So, consider this when planning your trip to Cancun.

How Safe Is the Hurricane Season?  With the advanced technology, we have these days, we are able to get more accurately track storms.  This allows them to warn far in advance to tourists and locals of any storm activity that has the potential to hit land.  So, you would have time to pack and travel inland to a safe place if you are staying in a hotel by the ocean.  All of the hotels in the area have an evacuation plan in case of a storm and offer shelters and routes to get there.

  • The number one tip for vacationing in hurricane season is to check the weather.  Weather
  • Get an app on your phone where you can have an alert to notify you in case of a hurricane thread or storms, like Storm Radar, Wunderground, AccuWeather, Hurricane tracker, National hurricane to mention some.
  • Make a plan B in case of evacuation from your resort.  Many people travel inland and keep their vacation going.  I´ve done it.
  • When making reservations for accommodation, ask about cancelation or hurricane policy.
